On the extra backgrounds

Every distro has its extra backgrounds package or collections.  Fedora isn’t an exception.

Here there’s an article about that package:  https://fedoramagazine.org/try-out-the-additional-wallpapers-for-fedora-23/

And here’s a screenshot of my own desktop using one of this extra backgrounds (Super Flat Remix icons & Sidi-Boujafaar Beach desktop theme:

If you think 86MB is a ridiculous size for just 16 wallpapers, I’m uploading them to Google Drive and posting the link later on.   Promised, it’s going to be way lighter.

  1. I hope there will be a day when if data can be compressed, it is compressed automatically before being sent over the internet. But the primary way of increasing internet speed, is to simply build more connections (more cables, bigger capacity). So in that sense, we can see why the work is useful when engineers build cables underground and we can even begin to see why we pay companies for our internet.

    1. That’s true. But 86 MBs for just 16 wallpapers it’s exaggerated. But it’s mainly a format problem, they’re all PNG files. I converted them to JPG and now they’re third the original size.

      1. png, (portable network graphics) is lossless and jpeg / jpg is lossy, which means that compared to the original image data, jpeg MAY lose picture quality.

Nonetheless, lossless compression is still compression. raw data files are large because they simply contain what the camera stores.

Thanks for replying to my comment 🙂

      2. You’re very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to write here. And thanks for your explanation. I only knew that jpg is better for edition and is lossy, but I didn’t know that png was lossless.

      3. What does “Viajera mental” mean?

Allow me to correct your English, sin comprarlas.

I only knew that jpeg is better for compactness and low-bandwidth connections, and can be lossy, but I didn’t know that .png was lossless.

interesting article like yours. It’s lovely price enough for me.

Personally, if all site owners and bloggers made just right content
as you probably did, the net shall be a lot more useful than ever before.
